Family transfer with luggage in La Rioja

Updated 2026 5 min read By Rioja Transfer

A family transfer with luggage in La Rioja: private transfers for families with bulky luggage from the main airports to La Rioja. A spacious vehicle, with child seats available.

Group of travellers with the Rioja Group van

Travelling as a family almost always means more suitcases than fit in a normal car, and children who don't always have the patience to wait for a taxi outside arrivals. Our family transfer with luggage is designed for exactly that.

What the service includes

  • A vehicle with real space for suitcases, not just for passengers: a 7-seat van with a large boot.
  • Help with your luggage both at pick-up and at your destination.
  • Child seats available if requested when you book.
  • A driver waiting in arrivals with a name sign, so you don't have to hunt for a taxi with children and suitcases in tow.

Which airports we cover

The service covers family transfers to and from the main airports used by families visiting La Rioja: Bilbao, Madrid, Zaragoza, Vitoria and Pamplona, plus Biarritz and Barcelona for those arriving from south-west France or Catalonia. See all our airport transfers to La Rioja.

“With children and suitcases, the last thing you want is to look for a free taxi. Your family transfer is already waiting at the door.”

Price and booking

The price is fixed per journey and vehicle, not per person, so a large family pays no more for travelling together. Just tell us the number of seats, whether you need child seats and how much luggage you have when you request a quote.

Family transfer with luggage in La Rioja

A spacious vehicle, help with your suitcases, child seats available. A fixed price per family.

Quick answer

Rioja Transfer's family transfer takes families with children and plenty of luggage from the airport to their accommodation in La Rioja in a 7-seat van, with child seats on request, a driver waiting in arrivals and a fixed price per vehicle. Bilbao–Logroño, for example, is a journey of around an hour and a half.

How long does it take from each airport?

With children, journey time matters as much as the price of the flight. This table helps you choose an airport with your arrival in Logroño in mind:

AirportApproximate distance and time to LogroñoTip for families
Vitoria (VIT)~90 km, ~1 hThe shortest journey; ideal with babies.
Pamplona (PNA)~90 km, ~1 hConvenient if you connect via Madrid.
Bilbao (BIO)~135 km, ~1 h 30More direct flights; a good option for Haro (~1 h 15).
Zaragoza (ZAZ)~170 km, ~1 h 45Worth considering if you are heading to the Rioja Baja.
Biarritz (BIQ)~230 km, ~2 h 30For families coming from France.
Madrid-Barajas (MAD)~330 km, ~3 h 30Plan a stop halfway.
Barcelona (BCN)~470 km, ~4 h 30A long journey: best to set off well rested.

Approximate times depending on traffic. On long journeys we can stop so the children can stretch their legs.

Child seats: what to tell us when you book

In Spain, children who are 135 centimetres tall or shorter must travel in a child restraint system suited to their height and weight. So we can prepare the right seats, when you request a quote tell us:

  • How many children are travelling and the approximate age, weight and height of each.
  • Whether any of them needs a rear-facing seat (babies) or just a booster.
  • Whether you'd rather bring your own seat, so we can leave room in the boot.

Will everything fit? How to work out your luggage

The Rioja Group van has room for seven passengers and their luggage, but it's best to tell us what you're bringing so there are no surprises at the terminal. Let us know the number of large suitcases, cabin bags, pushchair (folded), travel cot and any special items, such as children's bikes or boards. If there are four of you with little luggage, a car may be enough; if there are five or more of you, or you have a pushchair and large suitcases, the van is the safe choice.

Arrival day, step by step

  1. When you land, switch on your phone: the driver already knows your actual arrival time because they track your flight.
  2. Collect your luggage at your own pace; if it's slow, the driver waits at no extra cost.
  3. At the arrivals exit you'll see the sign with your name.
  4. The driver loads the luggage and checks the child seats before setting off.
  5. Straight to your accommodation, with no changes and no taxi queues.

And after the airport, what can you do with children?

La Rioja has plenty of plans for families: dinosaur footprints in Enciso, the mountains around Ezcaray or an afternoon in Logroño's old town. If you are travelling with grandparents who need help getting around, take a look at our accessible transport; and if the reason for your trip is a family celebration, see our chauffeur for first communions and family celebrations.

The return: what time to leave for the airport

The journey home is usually the most stressful part: breakfast, packing up the room, getting the children dressed and arriving in time to check in. A practical rule is to add up the journey time, the two hours recommended at the airport before your flight and a half-hour margin for the unexpected with children. For example, for a 12:00 flight from Bilbao leaving from Logroño, a sensible pick-up time would be around 8:00. We suggest the time when we confirm your booking and, if your flight changes, we adjust it.

Large families or families split between two places to stay

At family gatherings it is common for part of the group to stay in Logroño and another part in a country cottage in Rioja Alavesa or a hotel in Haro. We can make pick-ups at several points within the same service or coordinate two vehicles leaving for the airport at the same time. If there are more than seven of you, we combine vehicles so nobody is left waiting at the terminal.

Tips for a calm journey with children

  • Keep to hand water, a snack and a toy or tablet with headphones; the boot can't be reached during the journey.
  • If a child gets car sick, let us know: we try to seat them with a good view forward, drive smoothly on mountain bends and stop if needed.
  • For babies, have a bag ready with nappies and a change of clothes; on long journeys, such as from Madrid or Barcelona, we can stop at a service area.
  • Label your suitcases with your name and phone number: with several identical suitcases, it saves time loading and unloading.

If instead of a single transfer you need to get around for several days with the same vehicle, ask about our hourly service with the van: the driver waits for you while you visit a village, a museum or a winery with a children's area.

How to request a quote for the family transfer

Send us these details via the contact form or on WhatsApp: airport and flight number, arrival date and time, accommodation address, number of adults and children (with ages), the child seats you need and how many large suitcases you are bringing. We'll reply in less than an hour with the fixed price for the journey, which is per vehicle, not per person. If you also want to book the return, ask in the same message and we'll confirm everything in one go.

Bear in mind the busiest dates: in summer, during the grape harvest and at Easter (Semana Santa) many families travel to La Rioja and the 7-seat van gets booked up earlier. If you've already bought your flights for those dates, don't leave the transfer to the last minute: the sooner we confirm it, the easier it is to prepare the child seats and the right vehicle.
