Bilbao Airport to Logroño Transfer

Updated 2026 5 min read By Rioja Transfer

Private Bilbao airport to Logroño transfer: a 1 h 30 drive, a fixed price and a driver waiting for you in arrivals.

Of all the routes between Bilbao airport and La Rioja, the one we are asked for most, by a long way, is the direct run to Logroño, the regional capital. Here are the practical details: distance, journey time and how to book your private transfer.

Motorway transfer between Bilbao airport and Logroño

How long does the Bilbao airport to Logroño transfer take?

The journey takes around 1 hour 30 minutes, covering roughly 135 kilometres on the AP-68. It is a fast, well-signposted motorway that links Bilbao (Loiu) airport directly with the capital of La Rioja.

Why book a private transfer rather than a taxi or bus

  • Fixed price from the moment you book, with no surprises on arrival and no haggling with a taxi driver.
  • Your driver waiting in arrivals with a sign bearing your name, so there is no hunting for the taxi rank or hauling your cases on your own.
  • Flight tracking: if your flight is delayed, the driver adjusts at no extra cost.
  • No changes: unlike the bus, which has no direct connection and can add several hours, a private transfer takes you door to door.

How booking works

You request a quote with your flight, date and number of passengers. We confirm a fixed price and your driver's name. On the day, your driver meets you in the arrivals hall at Bilbao airport with a name sign and takes you straight to your destination in Logroño: hotel, home or any exact address. If you are staying elsewhere in the region, see all our airport transfers to La Rioja.

“An hour and a half of motorway separates Bilbao airport from Logroño. With a private transfer, that journey begins the moment you walk out of the terminal.”

Outbound and return

The service runs in both directions: if you are catching a flight from Bilbao, we will also pick you up in Logroño with plenty of time to reach check-in without any rush.

From Bilbao airport to every town in La Rioja

Loiu is the airport most visitors to La Rioja use, and not only to get to Logroño. The AP-68 runs down from Bilbao along the Ebro valley and passes Haro before reaching the capital, so the Rioja Alta area actually comes first. These are the destinations we are asked for most from the Bilbao terminal:

DestinationApprox. distanceApprox. timeUseful note
Logroño~135 km~1 h 30Straight into the centre; ideal if you are staying in the Casco Antiguo (old town) or near Calle Laurel.
Haro~100 km~1 h 15The Rioja town closest to Loiu; wineries of the Barrio de la Estación (Station District).
Santo Domingo de la Calzada~110 km~1 h 15A common starting point for pilgrims resuming the Camino Francés.

Calahorra~185 km~2 hRioja Baja; continue along the AP-68 beyond Logroño.

These figures are a guide only: they depend on your arrival time, roadworks on the motorway and the exact address. We confirm the precise journey time when we send your quote.

Bilbao airport to Haro

This is the classic arrival for anyone coming to taste wine. You leave Loiu, join the AP-68 and in just over an hour you are in Haro, without going through Logroño. Many clients book the transfer and a day of winery visits for the same day; you will find all the details on our Bilbao airport to Haro transfer page.

Bilbao airport to Nájera

Nájera combines heritage with the Camino de Santiago. If your flight lands in the afternoon, we drop you at your hostel or hotel so you can start walking the next day. We explain it step by step on the Bilbao airport to Nájera transfer page.

Bilbao airport to Santo Domingo de la Calzada

The town of the saint lies a short distance from the motorway and is another popular stop on the Way of St James, with its cathedral and parador. See the Bilbao airport to Santo Domingo transfer for pick-ups at hostels and for groups with backpacks.

Bilbao airport to Calahorra

Calahorra is at the far end of La Rioja, so the journey stretches to around two hours. Even so, for many international flights Bilbao remains the most convenient option. If you need to get around the area afterwards, we offer a private driver in Calahorra.

Bilbao airport to Arnedo

Arnedo, known for its footwear industry and its caves, is reached by following the motorway and turning off onto a local road. It is a regular route for professionals visiting companies in the area; for them we offer a car with driver in Arnedo and invoices issued to your company.

What to know when you land at Loiu

  • A single terminal: your driver waits at the arrivals exit with a sign bearing your name.
  • Checked luggage: no need to tell us you are waiting for bags; we follow your actual landing time.
  • Late-night flights: we work 24 hours a day, so you are not tied to bus timetables.
  • Groups: for more than four people or lots of luggage, book the 7-seat van from Rioja Group.

If you are still not sure whether Bilbao is the best airport for you, compare all seven options in our guide to La Rioja airport transfers, which also covers the bus alternatives.

What time should you leave Logroño to catch a flight from Bilbao?

For a domestic or Schengen-area flight, we usually suggest a pick-up in Logroño about three hours before take-off: an hour and a half on the road plus time to check in and clear security. If you are flying outside Europe or checking bulky luggage (golf clubs, bicycles, cases of wine), we add another half hour. In winter, with fog or snow on the motorway, we also allow extra time.

From Haro, Santo Domingo or Nájera you can leave a little later, as those towns are closer to Loiu. From Calahorra or Arnedo, on the other hand, it is best to leave earlier. We work it out using your flight number and confirm it in writing together with the fixed price.

Bilbao or Vitoria: which suits you better?

Vitoria (Foronda) airport is closer to Logroño (around an hour away), but it operates fewer routes. Loiu has more frequencies and airlines, so you will often find better flight times even though the drive is half an hour longer. If your flight lands at Foronda, you will find everything you need on the Vitoria airport to La Rioja transfer page. And if you want to make the most of the day after landing, you can combine the transfer with a day trip to La Rioja from Bilbao.

Transfer, bus or hire car from Loiu

The bus usually means going via Bilbao bus station and relying on just a few departures a day; a hire car means driving for an hour and a half after your flight and rules out wine tasting for whoever is behind the wheel. A private transfer is the hassle-free alternative with no changes: you walk out of the terminal and step out at your destination. For a closer comparison, read why choose a private transfer in La Rioja, and see our Logroño train station transfer guide if part of your trip is by train.
