Coming from Bilbao, you reach Haro before Logroño, so it is the natural gateway to Rioja Alta: you land, we meet you in arrivals and in just over an hour you are beside the century-old wineries of the old railway station.
The Barrio de la Estación grew up at the end of the 19th century around the railway line linking Haro with Bilbao: Rioja wines left along it for the port and for France. Today the same connection is made by motorway, and in less time. Many visitors retrace that historic route: they fly into Bilbao and head straight down to taste wine in the area that is home to some of the oldest wineries in La Rioja.
