Santo Domingo marks the end of the stage from Nájera and the start of the one that, via Grañón, leaves La Rioja for Belorado and the province of Burgos. That makes it a good place to:
- Start the Camino if you want to walk the Castilian section towards Burgos with a first day in La Rioja.
- Resume your route where you left off the year before: we pick you up at Loiu and drop you at the same albergue.
- Finish your section and fly home from Bilbao without going through Logroño.

Sightseeing in Santo Domingo and the surrounding area
As well as the cathedral and its free-standing bell tower, it is well worth walking the town walls, the Plaza del Santo and the old pilgrims' hospital, now a parador.
