Transport for a family celebration

A First Communion or family celebration usually brings together people with different transport needs. Some guests may know the area and others may not; there may also be children or older people in the group. Having a service arranged in advance helps make the journeys part of the overall plan for the event.

Rioja Transfer can assess transfers for guests between the points you have planned, for example from the pick-up point to the church and then on to the restaurant. The exact route is prepared from the details you provide when requesting a quote.

What we need to know

Before booking, explain how you have planned the celebration. Every family organises the day in its own way, so we prepare the route around your schedule.

  • Date of the First Communion or family celebration.
  • Planned pick-up point or points.
  • Journeys you need during the day.
  • Number of relatives or guests who will travel.
  • Relevant information about children or older people in the group.

Coordinate church, restaurant and pick-ups

When a celebration takes place in several locations, transport can become yet another organisational task. Arranging it in advance saves each guest from having to find their own way and makes it easier to keep a shared plan for the main journeys.

If you also have relatives travelling with luggage or need a service for a group, you can check Rioja Transfer's related pages and explain all your needs in a single request.

Request a quote for your celebration

Contact Rioja Transfer once you have the main details. With the date, the planned stops and the number of passengers, we can assess the request and give you the information you need before confirming the service.

You can use the contact form or message us on WhatsApp at +34 603 276 398. The aim is for the transport to be organised before the event, so the family can focus on the celebration without coordinating journeys at the last minute.

Quick answer

Rioja Transfer organises transport for First Communions, christenings and family celebrations in La Rioja: collecting relatives from home, hotel, station or airport, taking them to the church and then the restaurant, and bringing them back at the end of the day. A car or 7-seat van depending on the group, child seats on request and a fixed price.

A family celebration chauffeur for the day, in four journeys

Most celebrations follow a similar pattern. Having it clear helps you decide which journeys you need and how many vehicles:

JourneyWho usually travelsTip
Relatives arriving from elsewhereGrandparents, uncles and aunts or godparents coming by train or planePick-up at Logroño station or the airport the day before.
Home or hotel → churchThe child's family and older relativesArrive 20-30 minutes early for photos at the door.
Church → restaurantGuests without a car or who prefer not to driveIf the restaurant is outside the city, the van runs on rotation.
Restaurant → home or hotelEveryone who has raised a glassSet an approximate time and let us know if the after-lunch chat runs on.

First Communion season: book early

First Communions are concentrated in spring, especially in May and June, and many families celebrate on the same weekend. If you already have the date, it's best to book the transport several weeks ahead, just as you book the restaurant. For christenings, anniversaries or golden weddings, the timescale is usually more flexible, but the sooner you let us know, the easier it is to assign the right vehicle.

Car or van?

  • Up to 3 or 4 people with little luggage: a car from Rioja Standard, or an electric car from Rioja Executive if you want the car to look good in the photos.
  • 5 to 7 people, or with grandparents and young children: the Rioja Group van, with room for pushchairs and bags.
  • More than 7 people: we combine vehicles or make several coordinated trips.

Young children and older people

At these celebrations, babies, young cousins and great-grandparents often travel in the same vehicle. When booking, tell us the age and approximate weight of the children so we can prepare child seats, and whether any older person needs help getting in or uses a walking frame. The driver takes care of fitting seats, pushchairs and mobility aids. If the family is arriving from the airport with lots of luggage, see also our family transfer with luggage, and for more specific mobility needs, our accessible transport.

Restaurants outside the city

Many families choose an asador (traditional roast house) or a restaurant in a nearby village for the First Communion lunch. This is exactly when transport pays off most: nobody has to drive after the meal and everyone travels back together. If you are still looking for a venue, ask us when you get in touch.

What if it's a wedding?

Weddings have their own dedicated service, with a car for the couple, guest rotations and a photo session among the vineyards: you'll find it in our wedding transfers in La Rioja.

Sample schedule for a First Communion in Logroño

An illustrative example: ceremony at 12:00 in a Logroño parish and lunch at a restaurant on the outskirts. This is how transport could be organised for the grandparents and godparents coming from elsewhere:

  1. 11:15 · Pick-up at the hotel for the relatives who arrived the day before.
  2. 11:30 · Pick-up of the great-grandparents at their home, with help getting into the vehicle.
  3. 11:40 · Arrival at the church with time for photos and greetings.
  4. 13:15 · Departure for the restaurant, about 15-20 minutes away.
  5. 18:00 · Staggered return: older relatives first, then everyone else.

With the van booked by the hour, the driver is available all day and adapts if the ceremony or the lunch runs on.

Other family celebrations we also organise

  • Christenings, with short journeys and plenty of baby seats.
  • Silver and golden wedding anniversaries, where the guests of honour deserve to arrive in a special car.
  • Milestone birthdays and family reunions at a winery or a restaurant in Rioja Alta.
  • Farewells and tributes where the group would rather not drive.
  • Romerías and patron saint festivals in the family's home village, often at mountain sanctuaries with limited parking; we explain it in our transfers for processions and pilgrimages.
  • Relatives travelling from afar for the occasion who need an airport transfer the day before and a return the day after.

In every case, the approach is the same: you tell us the schedule and who is travelling, we suggest the vehicles and send you a fixed price in under an hour.

One last tip: share the pick-up point and time with the guests who will use the service a few days beforehand, for example in the family messaging group. That way nobody ends up waiting at the wrong door on the day and the driver can keep to the planned schedule. If someone is running late, a quick WhatsApp message is all it takes to reorganise the pick-up order without the rest of the family arriving late at the church.
