Why choose a transfer from Barcelona

Barcelona Airport,
an international hub for La Rioja

El Prat is a long way from La Rioja, but it has direct flights that no airport in the north offers. Sometimes it pays to land there and cover the rest of the journey by road with a single chauffeur.

The widest choice of flights

More long-haul and low-cost routes than any other airport on our list: it is often the only direct flight from your home city.

International hub

Connections with the Americas, Asia and the Middle East. If your trip starts in the city rather than at Terminal 1 or 2, give us the exact address when you request your quote.

Ideal for international groups

If there are several of you, the 7-seat van spreads the cost of a long journey between everyone and usually works out cheaper than a train plus a taxi each.

How the transfer from Barcelona works

Your driver is waiting
at El Prat

El Prat has two terminals several kilometres apart, so we need to know whether you are arriving at T1 or T2. Your chauffeur waits at the arrivals exit with your name and tracks your flight in real time; a delay does not change the price.

For a journey of more than four hours we plan at least one rest stop, usually around Lleida or Zaragoza, to stretch your legs and grab a bite to eat. Travelling as a group? See our Rioja Group van.

Real-time flight tracking, no charge for delays

Barcelona airport to La Rioja transfer: every town in La Rioja

Quick answer: Barcelona-El Prat is about 470 km from Logroño, around 4 h 30 via the AP-2 and AP-68. It is the furthest airport we cover, but it can pay off if you have a direct long-haul flight or are travelling as a group and want to go together, with no trains or changes, all the way to your accommodation in La Rioja.

The route leaves the Llobregat area heading inland, crosses the Catalan Central Depression via Lleida, passes through the Monegros and reaches Zaragoza. From there it follows the Ebro upstream past Tudela and enters La Rioja at Alfaro. That is why, unlike from Bilbao, the towns of the Rioja Baja are the closest here and the Rioja Alta comes at the end of the journey:

Destination from El PratApprox. kmApprox. timeComment
Calahorra~400 km~3 h 50The first major Rioja town after leaving the AP-68.
Arnedo~420 km~4 h 10A detour up the Cidacos valley from Calahorra.
Logroño~470 km~4 h 30The benchmark journey; one stop recommended.
Laguardia~485 km~4 h 45Crossing the Ebro north of Logroño.
Nájera~500 km~4 h 50Beyond the capital, along the Camino motorway.
Haro~515 km~5 hThe far western end; consider flying to Bilbao if you can.
Santo Domingo de la Calzada~515 km~5 hThe Camino destination furthest from Barcelona.

Approximate times not including stops. On journeys like these we plan the driver's rest break, so add a few minutes to the total.

El Prat – Calahorra and Arnedo

These are the destinations where Barcelona is least penalised: a little under four hours to Calahorra. If you are in the area for work, we offer a private driver in Calahorra for the following days.

El Prat – Logroño

The most common case: travellers arriving from Latin America or Asia on a direct flight to Barcelona who would rather not make a connection. If they land in the morning, they reach Logroño by mid-afternoon. If there are more than four of you, the Rioja Group van is the logical choice.

El Prat – Haro, Nájera and Santo Domingo

That is five hours on the road. We will do it, but we recommend comparing it with a flight to Bilbao and our Bilbao airport to Haro transfer, which puts the Rioja Alta just over an hour from the terminal.

Group travel and agencies from Barcelona

Barcelona attracts a lot of international groups: corporate incentives, tours combining Catalonia and the north of Spain, or friends flying in from different cities and meeting up at El Prat. For these cases we offer:

  • A single vehicle for everyone, with room for a week's luggage.
  • Coordination of several flights: if you arrive at different times, we suggest a meeting point and time.
  • Invoicing to a company or agency; see our service for travel agencies.
  • Combining with wine tourism: many groups come for a Rioja wine tour from Barcelona.

If you can still change airports, check the full comparison on our La Rioja airport transfers page.

Back to El Prat: what time to leave La Rioja

For a long-haul flight, with slower check-in and security, we usually suggest leaving Logroño about seven hours before take-off: four and a half hours on the road, one stop and time to spare at the terminal. From Haro or Santo Domingo you need to leave even earlier; from Calahorra, a little later. If your flight leaves very early, consider spending your last night in Barcelona: we take you to your hotel in the city the afternoon before, and in the morning you only have a short trip to the terminal, with no pre-dawn start or rush on the motorway.

We confirm the exact time in writing with your quote, so you don't have to do the maths.

What if I would rather change airports?

There are frequent flights from Barcelona to Bilbao and other airports in the north. If your ticket allows you to add that leg, the transfer from Zaragoza Airport or the one from Bilbao cuts the road journey to under two hours. We will price both options so you can compare total cost and time before deciding.

Frequently asked questions

All about the transfer from Barcelona

How long does it take from Barcelona Airport to Logroño?

Around 4 hours 30 minutes for roughly 470 km on the AP-2 (via Lleida) and the AP-68 from Zaragoza, plus the time for a rest stop if we make one.

How much does a transfer from Barcelona Airport cost?

It is a long-distance service: the fixed price includes tolls and the vehicle's return trip. Travelling as a group in the van brings the cost per person down considerably. Request a quote with your date, terminal and number of travellers.

What happens if my flight to Barcelona is delayed?

Delays are common on long-haul flights. We check the actual landing time at El Prat and your chauffeur is there when you come out, at no extra cost.

Is a transfer worth it compared with the train from Barcelona?

For one or two people with little luggage, the train to Logroño can be cheaper. For families, groups or destinations outside the capital (Haro, Calahorra, a winery), a door-to-door transfer saves you changing at Sants and in Logroño.

Can you take me anywhere in La Rioja from Barcelona?

Yes. Calahorra and Arnedo are the first we reach coming in from Zaragoza; Haro and Santo Domingo are the furthest. See the table on this page.

Is the service available in English?

Yes, Spanish and English. For passengers arriving on long flights from outside Europe, being able to talk to the chauffeur in English for four hours makes all the difference.
