Private driver
in Ezcaray
A private driver in Ezcaray gets you from the airport to your hotel, lets you dine at Echaurren without worrying about the drive back and takes you round the Oja valley at your own pace. Licensed VTC chauffeur, electric cars or a van, and a fixed price.
Why have a driver in the mountains
When is a private driver in Ezcaray worth it?
Quick answer
A private driver in Ezcaray is worth it when you are staying at a hotel or rural cottage in the valley and arriving by plane or train, when you are going out for lunch or dinner and don't want to drive a mountain road at night, or when you want to see the Oja valley, Santo Domingo and Haro in a single day. Logroño is about 50 minutes away and Bilbao airport around 1 h 30.
Booking a private driver in Ezcaray is, above all, a logistical decision. The village is one of the most charming destinations in the Rioja Alta, with arcaded streets, houses bearing coats of arms, a long textile tradition and the kind of cooking that justifies the trip on its own — but it sits at the end of a valley, on the slopes of the Sierra de la Demanda. There is no train and buses are infrequent, so anyone arriving without a car is tied to timetables. And anyone arriving with one soon discovers that, after a long dinner with wine, a drive back along winding roads is the last thing they want.
This is not a page about skiing: for the snow season see our Valdezcaray ski resort transfer. Here we focus on village life all year round: hotels, restaurants, celebrations and trips around the valley.

Hotels and fine dining
How to get to Echaurren and Ezcaray's hotels without driving
Many people travel to Ezcaray for its food. Hotel Echaurren, run by the Paniego family, is home to El Portal, a restaurant awarded Michelin stars, as well as a traditional cooking offer; around it are other restaurants and grill houses that also draw visitors. If you are weighing up other Michelin-starred restaurants in La Rioja, just tell us where you would like to go and we will plan the journey.
A tasting menu with wine pairing and a night-time drive along a mountain road don't mix. With a driver, the journey becomes part of the plan: we pick you up at your hotel, in Logroño or in Haro, wait for you and take you back. For stays at hotels anywhere in the region, our hotel transfers in La Rioja work the same way.
The Oja valley
What to see in Ezcaray and around in a day with a driver
You can walk round Ezcaray's old centre in a couple of hours: the almost fortress-like church of Santa María la Mayor, the arcades on the square and the building of the former Real Fábrica de Paños (Royal Cloth Factory), dating from the 18th century, a reminder of the village's textile past. That tradition lives on in the workshops that still weave wool and mohair blankets and scarves — a favourite purchase among visitors.
Up the valley, the mountain hamlets show another side of La Rioja, with stone, meadows and beech woods. Down the valley, the Oja greenway follows the old railway line and makes a very pleasant flat walk. If you would like to combine village and mountain in one day, in the snow season you can add our transfer up to Valdezcaray.
Quick checklist for planning your day
- Morning: a stroll round the old centre and a visit to a textile workshop.
- Midday: lunch in Ezcaray; book ahead at weekends.
- Afternoon: head down to Santo Domingo de la Calzada, 15 minutes away, or to Haro for a winery visit. For the latter, see our Haro winery visit with a driver.
- Evening: back to your hotel or to Logroño with the same driver.
Which vehicle should you choose for Ezcaray?
For couples and business trips, our Rioja Executive service offers electric Mercedes EQ and Tesla cars, with water and WiFi on board. If you are after something simpler, Rioja Standard uses MG and Toyota saloons. Families and groups of friends travel more comfortably in the 7-seat Rioja Group van, with room for a week's luggage.
And in winter?
Ezcaray has a special atmosphere in the cold months, with log fires burning and the snowy sierra in the background. When there is snow on the road, we prefer to set off with time to spare and, if necessary, adjust the schedule. And if you are flying in, check our Bilbao airport transfer, which we also run all the way to Ezcaray.

Questions about a driver in Ezcaray
How long does it take from Logroño to Ezcaray?+
Around 50 minutes for roughly 60 km, via Nájera or Santo Domingo de la Calzada. It is an easy journey for lunch or dinner in Ezcaray and back to Logroño the same night with a driver.
Can you pick us up after dinner at Echaurren?+
Yes. We agree an approximate time and the driver waits for you outside; if you linger over coffee, message us on WhatsApp and we will adapt. The fixed price is worked out when you book, based on the outward journey, waiting time and return.
Is there public transport between Ezcaray and the airports?+
There is no direct connection: you would need to take a bus to Logroño or Santo Domingo and then another means of transport. That is why many guests at Ezcaray's hotels prefer a private transfer from Bilbao (about 1 h 30) or Vitoria (about 1 h 10).
Does the driver service in Ezcaray cover the villages in the valley?+
Yes. We pick up in Ezcaray and in the hamlets and rural cottages of the Oja valley, such as Zorraquín, Valgañón or Ojacastro. Give us the exact address, because some access roads are narrow and we choose the vehicle to suit the route.
Which vehicle suits a group of friends or a family?+
Up to 4 people, a Rioja Executive or Rioja Standard car. From 5 to 7, the Rioja Group van, with room for suitcases or pushchairs. A 16-seat minibus for larger groups is coming soon; in the meantime, we combine vehicles.
