Quick answer: For a Muga winery visit with a driver, we pick you up in Logroño (about 45 km, around 40 minutes away), at your hotel in Haro or at Bilbao Airport (~1 h 15), drop you at the winery door in the Barrio de la Estación and either wait for you or come back at the agreed time. The guided tour is booked with Muga; the transport, at a fixed price, with us.

If you are planning a Muga winery visit with a driver, you have already picked one of Haro's most recognisable houses. Muga is a family winery founded in 1932 by Isaac Muga and Aurora Caño, which moved in the early 1970s to the Barrio de la Estación (the Station District), the famous corner of Haro where several historic wineries settled beside the railway line. What sets it apart is not just the name, but its determination to keep doing by hand jobs that almost everyone else has industrialised.

What do you see on a Muga winery visit?

The tour is particularly interesting if you want to understand the role of wood in Rioja wine. Muga keeps its own cooperage, where coopers assemble and repair the barrels, and it ferments in large oak vats rather than steel tanks. It also preserves traditional fining with egg whites, a method that is explained very clearly on site. The exact content, length and tasting options depend on the format you book with the winery, so check its official website before fixing the date.

Which wines usually appear in the tasting?

It depends on the option you choose. Standard tours usually finish with wines from the house's best-known range, such as its red reserva or its rosé, while premium experiences may include top-end labels like Prado Enea or Torre Muga. If you are keen on a particular wine, ask the winery when you book. One tip we often repeat: don't rush your purchases at the end of the tour; with the car waiting, you can mull it over at lunch and pop back to the shop before heading home.

Why visit the Barrio de la Estación with a driver?

The Barrio de la Estación is small and easy to explore on foot, but getting there is not always convenient. From Haro's old town it is a walk of about twenty minutes across the Ebro, and in high season parking next to the wineries can be tricky. With a driver, we drop you at Muga's door, you can take your time between visits and the car is ready when you finish, with your purchases safely in the boot.

There is a more serious reason too: in the district it is common to link two or three tastings in a single morning. With a professional driver, nobody in the group has to miss out on the wine.

What if I take the train to Haro?

Haro has a station served by regional trains, and the district is actually named after it. It is an option if the timetable suits you, but there are only a few services a day. Here is how the two alternatives compare:

How long does it take to get to Muga?

These are the approximate figures we use for planning, rounded and always subject to traffic:

  • From Logroño: ~45 km, about 40 minutes via the N-232 or the AP-68. This is the service behind our Haro winery visits with a driver.
  • From Bilbao Airport: around 1 h 15; you can go straight to your visit with our Bilbao Airport to Haro transfer.
  • From Briones: about 15 minutes, ideal for combining with Dinastía Vivanco.
  • From Laguardia: around 30 minutes along the Sonsierra road.

How to book a Muga winery visit with a driver

  1. Choose the type of visit on the Bodegas Muga website and confirm the day and time with them.
  2. Send us those details along with your pick-up point and how many of you are travelling.
  3. Let us know if you want a second or third winery in the district, or lunch in Haro's old town.
  4. We send you a fixed price with waiting time included; you confirm and it is booked.
  5. On the day, the driver picks you up early enough for you to arrive a few minutes ahead of time.

Which other wineries in the district pair well with Muga?

Just a few steps away you will find houses with very different styles, which makes the district a perfect place to compare. A classic option is to add the CVNE winery visit with a driver, founded in the 19th century; another is to step into López de Heredia, whose shop pavilion was designed by Zaha Hadid. If you would like a tailored selection, just ask us when you request your quote.

In the afternoon, the plan can continue in Haro's old town or cross over to Briones to visit Dinastía Vivanco with a driver and its museum. If you want to know which houses open at weekends, ask the wineries directly or let us know your dates and we will plan around them.

Are there dates when you should book earlier?

Yes. At the end of June Haro holds its Batalla del Vino (Wine Battle), and access and demand change on those days. During the grape harvest, between September and October, visits to Muga and the rest of the district fill up weeks in advance, as they do at Easter and on long weekends. If your trip falls on those dates, book the winery first and let us know as soon as possible to secure the car; our private driver in Haro service can cover the rest of your stay.

For international travellers: we work in Spanish and English. If you are arriving from outside Spain and want to start your trip in Haro, we can pick you up in Bilbao or Madrid and take you straight to your visit.

Which car should you book for Muga?

For two people, a Rioja Standard car is more than enough for the journey. For a special occasion or a business trip, the electric Rioja Executive cars carry water and WiFi on board. If you are travelling as a group, the seven-seat Rioja Group van lets you all ride together, and we can invoice your company if needed. In every case the price is fixed before the trip, with no surprises for waiting time in the district.
