A driver for your CVNE winery visit

If you're already planning to visit Bodegas CVNE, you can get the transport sorted too. Having a driver lets you keep the visit itself separate from the driving, and puts all of the day's journeys into one service agreed in advance.

CVNE, founded in 1879, stands in Haro's Barrio de la Estación alongside other century-old wine houses. Opening times, tour formats and whether you need to book are set by the winery itself: check times and book on its official website before finalising your day.

What to tell Rioja Transfer

Once you have details of your visit, you can request a quote for the transport. The more information you give us, the easier it is to understand how you'd like to plan the day.

  • The date you plan to visit Bodegas CVNE.
  • Where you'd like the service to start.
  • Any information you have on the time of the visit.
  • The number of passengers who need transport.
  • Any other wineries or stops you have in mind.

“Enjoy your visit to Haro without having to worry about driving.”

Quick answer: CVNE (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España), founded in 1879, is in Haro's Barrio de la Estación, about 45 km from Logroño (around 40 minutes). Because it's surrounded by other historic wineries, you can easily walk to a second visit. We drop you at the door and pick you up when you've finished.

Why CVNE sits beside the railway line

The Barrio de la Estación grew up in the late 19th century, when the railway reached Haro and several wine houses chose to set up next to the platforms so they could load wine straight onto wagons bound for the ports and northern Europe. It was the era when the phylloxera plague was devastating French vineyards and demand for Rioja wine was rising. CVNE, popularly known as Cune, was founded in 1879 against that backdrop and shares the neighbourhood with some of the oldest wineries in La Rioja.

That history explains the practical advantage of visiting today: within a few metres you have several century-old houses, so the day can be planned on foot from one to the next while the car waits. Opening times, tour formats and bookings are available on the winery's official website.

A day built around CVNE

  • Morning: visit CVNE, then a second winery in the quarter, just a short walk away.
  • Midday: head up to Haro's old town for lunch around the Plaza de la Paz.
  • Afternoon: free time in town or a drive out to Briones and San Vicente de la Sonsierra, following the Rioja Alta wine route.
  • Return: back to Logroño, to your hotel in the area or to the airport.

If you're still choosing the second house of the day, our guide to Haro winery visits compares styles and types of tour.

Going to Haro on a special date?

At the end of June Haro holds the Batalla del Vino (Wine Battle), and during those days the town and its access roads change completely. If your CVNE visit coincides with the fiesta, book further ahead and ask us about pick-up times; our private driver service in Haro can help you plan around it. During the grape harvest, between September and October, it's also wise to book your visits well in advance.

Tips for visiting a century-old winery

  • Comfortable shoes: tours of the historic houses usually take in halls, courtyards and stairs down to the underground cellars (calados), with uneven floors.
  • An extra layer: underground it's cool even in the height of summer.
  • Arrive with time to spare: tour groups start on time and it's hard to join halfway through. We time your departure so you're at the door a few minutes early.
  • Think about your purchases: if you're buying bottles, the boot travels with you all day, so you don't have to carry them from one winery to the next.

Arriving from Madrid or further afield?

Haro lies on the natural route for anyone coming from the central plateau, so many travellers who land at Madrid-Barajas begin their stay in La Rioja right here in the Barrio de la Estación. We can meet you in arrivals, track your flight in case of delays and take you straight to the visit or to your accommodation; we explain it all on the Madrid airport to Haro transfer page. If you're coming from abroad, we look after you in Spanish and English throughout the journey.

Half day or full day in Haro?

If you only have a morning, CVNE and a second house in the quarter fill around four hours from Logroño nicely, including the journey there and back. With a full day you can add lunch in Haro's old town and a third visit, or switch regions in the afternoon and finish in Rioja Alavesa. Both formats are quoted by hours of service, so you decide how long you want it to last.

Either way, the meeting point at the end is simple: the Barrio de la Estación itself, beside the railway, where the driver waits while you walk from one winery to the next.

Which car should you book?

For one or two people, a car from the Rioja Standard range is enough and more economical. If the visit is part of a special trip or a business schedule, the Rioja Executive range offers premium electric cars with water and WiFi on board. The price is confirmed as a fixed fare before the trip, with waiting time in the quarter included.

Groups and company trips in the Barrio de la Estación

The quarter is a favourite with groups of friends and work teams, because you can string visits together without moving on. For seven people we use the Rioja Group van, with room for your purchases; if you're a company, we invoice in your name. There's more detail on our private group wine tour page.
