Your transfer to Marqués de Riscal with a driver
If you're already planning a visit to Bodegas Marqués de Riscal, you can arrange the transport from Logroño as well. Rioja Transfer's service is designed to take care of that part of the day with a car and driver, so you don't have to drive to Elciego or juggle different transport options.
The winery visit and the transport are best planned together. Once you have your booking details or the time slot you're aiming for, send them over and we'll work out the journey.
What to include when you request a quote
To prepare your request, we need to know how you'd like to organise the day. Opening times, tour formats and access conditions are set by the winery itself: check times and book on the official Marqués de Riscal website and, once your slot is confirmed, we'll fit the pick-up around it.
- The date you plan to visit Bodegas Marqués de Riscal.
- Where you need the service to start.
- Any information you have about your winery visit.
- The number of passengers who will use the vehicle.
- Any other journeys you'd like to include in the day.

“You plan the visit; leave the journey to your driver.”
Quick answer: Marqués de Riscal is in Elciego, in Rioja Alavesa, about 20 km from Logroño (around 25 minutes). Its signature is the hotel housed in the Frank Gehry building. With a driver you can come from Logroño, Haro, Laguardia or the airport, enjoy the tasting at your leisure and carry on touring the area.
How do you get to Elciego, and how long does it take?
Elciego is a small village by the Ebro, with no railway station and very limited public transport on weekdays, so most visitors arrive by road. These are the approximate times we work with, always depending on traffic:
| Starting point | Approximate time to Elciego |
|---|---|
| Logroño (centre or station) | about 25 minutes |
| Laguardia | about 10 minutes |
| Haro | about 30-35 minutes |
| Vitoria Airport | around 1 hour |
| Bilbao Airport | around 1 h 15 - 1 h 30 |
If you're landing in Vitoria and want to start your trip straight at the winery, you'll find all the details on the Vitoria airport to La Rioja transfer page.
What makes a Marqués de Riscal winery visit different
Few wineries are as recognisable from the road as this one. The hotel at the heart of the complex, designed by Frank Gehry, rises above the rooftops of Elciego with its rippling titanium sheets in pink, gold and silver – a nod to the colours of the wine, the golden wire mesh on the bottles and the capsule. Beside it stands the historic part of the winery, so 21st-century architecture and traditional underground cellars (calados) sit side by side on the same estate.
That's why it pays to arrive with time to spare: as well as your booked visit, you'll want to stroll around the village, walk up to the church of San Andrés and take in the building from different angles. Your driver can drop you at the entrance and pick you up in the square or at the viewpoint, so you don't have to hunt for parking in narrow streets. Bear in mind that some areas of the hotel may be reserved for guests or restaurant diners; check opening times, tour formats and booking on the winery's official website.
What other visits fit into the same day?
- Laguardia and its cellars, about 10 minutes away, for lunch and a walk inside the town walls.
- Ysios, Santiago Calatrava's building on the outskirts of Laguardia; we cover it on our Ysios winery visit with a driver page.
- Small family growers in Lapuebla de Labarca, on the banks of the Ebro, if you'd like a family-run contrast.

Staying at the hotel in Elciego?
Many of our clients book one or two nights at the hotel itself and ask us for the airport transfer, an excursion around the area and the departure at the end of their stay. We organise it all as a single coordinated service, with pick-up at the hotel entrance and help with your luggage. There's more information on our hotel transfers in La Rioja page.
Which vehicle should you choose for this visit?
For a couple's getaway or a special occasion, the Rioja Executive range offers premium electric cars (Mercedes EQ or Tesla) with water and WiFi on board, in keeping with the character of the place. For groups of up to seven, the Rioja Group van means everyone arrives together and heads home with the wine purchases in the boot.
When do Elciego and its winery look their best?
The building's titanium changes with the light: early in the morning it looks more silvery, and late in the afternoon it takes on warm tones that blend with the vineyards. If you're into photography, ask for a late visit and let us pick you up a little later so you can enjoy the sunset from the edge of the village. In autumn, with the vine leaves turning red and yellow, the contrast is even more striking; in those weeks, though, demand for visits rises and it's wise to book well in advance.
International visitors
Elciego welcomes many travellers from outside Spain who combine the winery with Bilbao, San Sebastián or Bordeaux. We look after you in Spanish and English, both when booking and during the journey, and we can wait for you in arrivals with a name sign. That way your Marqués de Riscal visit can be the first stop straight after landing or the last one before your flight home, with your luggage safe in the boot while you taste.
One last practical detail: Elciego is a quiet village with narrow streets, so we agree an easy-to-find pick-up point with you, such as the square or the winery entrance, so that when your visit ends you don't have to wait around or call anyone.
Before you book, have to hand
- The time of your visit, as confirmed by the winery.
- Whether you'd like lunch in Elciego, Laguardia or Logroño.
- The pick-up and return points, which can be different.
