Ysios Winery Visit with a Private Driver
Plan your Ysios winery visit with a private driver from Logroño. Rioja Transfer takes care of the journey so you can fit the visit into your day in Rioja Alavesa without having to drive.

Enjoy your Ysios winery visit without worrying about driving
Bodegas Ysios is instantly recognisable for its architecture, designed by Santiago Calatrava. If you're planning to visit the winery and want to travel from Logroño by private transport, you can book a service with a driver and build the journey into your plans for the day.
Rioja Transfer takes care of the transport, while the conditions of the visit should be checked directly with the winery. That way you can organise each part separately and coordinate the journey with the time you finally have confirmed.
Information we need to prepare the service
When you request a quote, let us know whatever details you have about your visit. Opening times, tour formats and booking conditions vary with the season: check times and book on the official Ysios website and, once your time is confirmed, we'll arrange the pick-up to match.
- The date you plan to visit Bodegas Ysios.
- Where you'd like the service to start.
- Any information you have about the time of your visit.
- The number of passengers who need transport.
- Any other stops you'd like to make during the day.
Combine Ysios with a tour of Rioja Alavesa
The visit can be the centrepiece of your day or one stop on a wider tour. If you have other wineries or villages in mind, just explain when you request a quote so Rioja Transfer can assess the journeys you need.
In the related services you'll find a dedicated page on Rioja Alavesa winery visits with a driver and another on Laguardia winery visits. Both will help you plan the rest of your tour of the area.

Once you've settled on the date and, ideally, the details of the visit, get in touch with Rioja Transfer. With that information we can assess the transport from Logroño and any other journeys you'd like to add.
You can use the contact form or message us directly on WhatsApp at +34 603 276 398. That way, booking the winery experience stays separate from arranging the car and driver you need to get there.
“Your visit to Ysios starts with a well-organised journey.”
Quick answer: Ysios is on the outskirts of Laguardia, in Rioja Alavesa, about 25 minutes from Logroño. It's famous for its Santiago Calatrava building, with an undulating roof that echoes the outline of the Sierra de Cantabria. With a driver you arrive at the door, taste without a care and carry on to Laguardia or Elciego in just a few minutes.
A building best appreciated from outside
The silhouette of Ysios is one of the most recognisable images of wine tourism in Spain. Calatrava designed it as an undulating line of metal roof above a long timber façade, with the mountains behind and a sheet of water in front reflecting the whole building. The idea, as it's usually explained, was to evoke a row of barrels and to echo the mountains that shelter the vineyards from the northern winds.
That's why part of the experience happens before you even walk through the door. Our tip is to ask your driver for a short stop on the access road or somewhere along the road through the vineyards so you can see the whole building, especially if you want to photograph it. In mid-afternoon the light comes in from the side and brings out the curves; at midday the façade looks flatter. Remember that opening times, tour formats and the rules on taking photos inside are set by the winery: check its official website when you book.
Ysios on the map of Rioja Alavesa
| From Ysios to… | Approximate time | What for |
|---|---|---|
| Laguardia's walled old town | about 5 minutes | Lunch, a stroll and a visit to an underground cellar |
| Elciego | about 10-15 minutes | The Frank Gehry building and the Marqués de Riscal winery |
| Logroño | about 25-30 minutes | Back to your hotel or dinner on Calle Laurel, the city's famous tapas street |
| Haro | around 30 minutes | Round off the day in the Barrio de la Estación |
Two combinations that work really well
- Wine architecture: Ysios in the morning and Marqués de Riscal in the afternoon – two of the area's best-known buildings in a single day. You'll find the other half of the plan on our Marqués de Riscal winery visit with a driver page.
- Avant-garde meets the Middle Ages: Ysios followed by the town of Laguardia, with its cellars beneath the houses and the portico of Santa María de los Reyes. We explain it all in Laguardia wineries with a driver.

What's the best time of year for an Ysios winery visit?
Each season changes the setting around the building. In spring the vines are budding and the mountains may still have a little snow on the peaks; in summer, the deep green contrasts with the metal roof; in autumn, during and after the grape harvest, the leaves turn red and gold and Rioja Alavesa has its busiest weeks; and in winter, with the vines bare, the architecture takes centre stage and visits tend to be quieter. Whatever the date, book well ahead on the winery's official website, as tour slots are limited.
Can you visit as a group?
Yes, as long as the winery has room for everyone on the same tour. For the transport, the seven-seat Rioja Group van lets you arrive together and saves coordinating several cars along country roads. If you're planning a full day across several areas, start with our main page on winery visits with a driver in La Rioja, where we set out the options by area and by length.
Why not just drive yourself?
Ysios is outside the town and there's no practical public transport to its door. If you go by car, someone in the group has to skip the tasting, and the drive back to Logroño or Vitoria is at night on minor roads through the vineyards. With us, the driver waits in the winery car park for the length of the visit, knows the turn-off for the access road and then drops you at the gate of Laguardia's town walls or at your hotel.
How much time should you allow for Ysios?
On top of the visit length the winery gives you, add about twenty minutes for photos of the exterior and to arrive in good time from Logroño. If you're having lunch in Laguardia afterwards, book your table for an hour after your expected finish: the drive to the town walls is very short, but you'll always want to linger a little longer admiring the building and the vineyards before you leave.
If the visit runs later than planned, don't worry: within the booked service the driver waits in the car park at no extra cost for that delay, and adjusts your arrival at the restaurant or hotel without you having to tell anyone.
Visitors from abroad
A large share of Ysios visitors come from abroad, often landing in Bilbao or Vitoria. We look after you in Spanish and English throughout the service, and for those who need it we have a dedicated English-speaking driver service in La Rioja. We can meet you in arrivals with a name sign and take you straight to the visit with your luggage in the boot.
