Logroño to Burgos Transfer

Updated 2026 7 min read By Rioja Transfer

A Logroño to Burgos transfer with a private driver links La Rioja with the city of Burgos in around an hour and a half, whether you are catching a train, visiting the cathedral or moving on along the Camino de Santiago.

Quick answer: Logroño to Burgos is about 120-145 km depending on the route, and roughly 1 h 30 by car. With Rioja Transfer we pick you up at your home, hotel or pilgrim hostel and drop you at Burgos-Rosa Manzano station, next to the cathedral or at any address in Burgos, at a fixed price and in both directions.

Burgos and Logroño share more than proximity: they are linked by the Camino Francés (the French Way), which enters La Rioja at Logroño and leaves for Castile after Grañón. That is why three very different kinds of traveller ask for this route: those who need to connect with a train in Burgos, those who want to see the city and its cathedral, and pilgrims who skip stages, drop out with an injury or start walking from there. This page sums up how to handle each case.

Road transfer between Logroño and Burgos across the Castilian plateau

Which route does a Logroño to Burgos transfer follow?

The most common option is the A-12 to Santo Domingo de la Calzada and then the N-120 via Belorado and the Montes de Oca. It is practically the same corridor the pilgrims follow, so it is the logical route if someone needs to be picked up or dropped off in a Camino village. The motorway alternative is a little longer, but can be the better choice in winter, when there is snow or fog in the Montes de Oca.

Why go to Burgos to catch the train?

Logroño has no AVE high-speed train: its links with Madrid are Alvia and Intercity services, with few departures. Burgos, on the other hand, is on the high-speed line to Madrid. For some travellers it makes sense to drive to Burgos-Rosa Manzano station, on the outskirts of the city, and continue by train from there. If that is you, tell us your train number and time: we work out the departure from Logroño with a margin and drop you at the station entrance.

If you would rather do the whole trip by road, with no changes, our Logroño to Madrid transfer takes you door to door to the capital. And if your train leaves from Logroño, our Logroño train station transfer covers the last leg.

Logroño to Burgos transfer for Camino pilgrims

Between Logroño and Burgos there are several stages of the Camino Francés, with villages such as Navarrete, Nájera, Azofra, Santo Domingo de la Calzada, Grañón, Belorado, San Juan de Ortega and Atapuerca. It is a long section, with climbs such as the one up the Montes de Oca, and it is not unusual for someone to need support. These are the situations we deal with most:

  • Skipping stages to make up days or avoid stretches along the road; we explain it on our Camino Francés stage transfers page.
  • Blisters, tendinitis or exhaustion: we pick you up in whichever village you are in and take you to the next hostel or to Burgos to rest.
  • Backpack without the pilgrim: if you just want to walk light, there is our Camino luggage transfer across La Rioja.
  • Starting or finishing a section: many pilgrims start or finish in Burgos and need to get back to Logroño or to an airport.
  • Groups: with the 7-seat Rioja Group van you travel together with all your backpacks.

If your Camino started further back, in Roncesvalles or Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, we also have a page on transfers between the Pyrenees and La Rioja. And to get around the area of Santo Domingo, the town of the saint, our private driver in Santo Domingo de la Calzada covers pick-ups at hostels and hotels.

“On the Camino, taking a transfer is not giving up: it is how you reach Santiago with your feet in good shape.”

Car with driver, bus or train between Logroño and Burgos?

There are direct buses between the two cities several times a day, and for a solo traveller in no hurry heading to the centre, they may be enough. The train does not offer a convenient direct connection on this route. The problem arises when the start or end point is not a station: a hostel in Belorado, a rural hotel, Rosa Manzano station itself, which is a long way from the centre, or a house in a Rioja village.

A private transfer is especially worthwhile in these cases:

  • You have a train at a fixed time and do not want to rely on an intermediate connection.
  • There are several of you and the cost of one vehicle is shared between everyone.
  • You are travelling with backpacks, suitcases or someone in discomfort who cannot carry weight.
  • You need to leave very early or come back at night.

In winter, the road over the Montes de Oca can also be tricky with snow or ice. We check road conditions before setting off and, if necessary, take the alternative motorway route so the journey is safe, even if it adds a few minutes.

What to see in Burgos if you are spending the day

Burgos cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is worth the trip on its own. A few minutes' walk away you have the Arco de Santa María, the Paseo del Espolón and the Museum of Human Evolution, which explains the finds at Atapuerca. The Atapuerca sites can be visited with advance booking and are on the outskirts, towards Logroño, so they can fit into the outward or return journey. If you would like a detailed itinerary for the day of Burgos and its cathedral from Logroño, just ask us when you book.

How to book your transfer, step by step

  4. You confirm and receive the driver's name and phone number.
  5. On the day, the driver picks you up at the agreed time and drops you at the door of your destination.

We work in Spanish and English, which is very helpful for international pilgrims, and we operate 24 hours a day.

Which vehicle do I need?

For one or two people with backpacks, the Rioja Standard range (MG and Toyota) is enough. If you are travelling on business or want more comfort for an hour-and-a-half journey, the Rioja Executive range (Mercedes EQ and Tesla, electric, with water and WiFi) is the quietest. For groups of pilgrims or families, the 7-seat van.
