Logroño to Madrid Transfer

Updated 2026 8 min read By Rioja Transfer

A Logroño to Madrid transfer with a private driver is the way to cover the 330-odd km between La Rioja and the capital without driving, without changing trains and with your exact address as the final stop.

Quick answer: Logroño to Madrid city takes about 3 h 30 by car, via Soria or via Burgos. With Rioja Transfer we pick you up at your home, hotel or office and drop you at your hotel, at Atocha, at Chamartín, at IFEMA or at any address in Madrid, at a fixed price and with rest stops.

Logroño has no AVE high-speed train: rail links with Madrid are Alvia and Intercity services with few direct departures, and flying is not a practical option. So when there is luggage, a tight schedule or several people travelling, many prefer a car with a driver that leaves when it suits them. This page is for travellers heading to Madrid city; if you are going to the airport, we cover that separately in our Madrid airport to Logroño transfer.

Which route does a Logroño to Madrid transfer take, and how long is it?

There are two sensible routes, and the driver picks the best one on the day:

RouteItineraryApprox. distance and timeWhen we use it
Via SoriaN-111 over the Piqueras pass and through Soria, then towards Medinaceli to join the A-2~330 km · ~3 h 30The most direct option in good weather; enters Madrid from the east.
Via BurgosTowards Burgos, then the A-1 via Lerma, Aranda de Duero and Somosierra~340 km · ~3 h 30-3 h 45When there is snow or fog at Piqueras, or if your destination is in the north of Madrid.

On top of those times you need to allow for getting into Madrid, which at rush hour can add a good half hour, plus any stops. On a journey like this we suggest at least one break halfway to stretch your legs and have a coffee.

Where in Madrid can we take you?

To any address. These are the destinations we drive to most often from La Rioja:

  • Atocha station: to connect with high-speed trains to the south or east of Spain.
  • Chamartín-Clara Campoamor station: connections to the north and north-west, and easy access from the A-1.
  • Hotels in the centre, on the Castellana or in the Salamanca district, with drop-off at the door.
  • IFEMA and the Campo de las Naciones area, for trade fairs and conferences.
  • Consulates and embassies, when you have a fixed-time appointment you cannot miss.
  • Leading hospitals and clinics, with the driver waiting if the appointment is short.
  • Stadiums and concert venues, with pick-up when the event ends.

Logroño to Madrid transfer, train or your own car?

The train makes sense if you are travelling alone, are in no hurry and the timetable suits you. Your own car means around three and a half hours at the wheel each way and finding parking in Madrid. A transfer wins when one or more of these apply: there are several of you and the cost is shared; you have bulky luggage; your appointment is at a fixed time; you are travelling in the early hours or coming back late; or you want to use the journey to work. On our private hire driver in Logroño page we explain what a car-with-driver service includes and how it differs from a taxi.

“Three and a half hours on the road is enough to prepare a meeting, answer emails or sleep. What it is not enough for is doing any of that while you drive.”

Which vehicle suits such a long journey?

On a trip of several hours, comfort matters more than on a short transfer. The Rioja Executive range (Mercedes EQ and Tesla Model Y or Model 3, all electric) offers quiet, space, water and on-board WiFi; and because they carry the ZERO environmental badge, they can enter Madrid's low-emission zones without any problem. The Rioja Standard range (MG and Toyota) is a practical alternative for those who put function first. For families or groups of up to seven, the Rioja Group van takes everyone together, luggage included.

With the electric cars we plan charging before departure and, if needed, during the rest stop, so it does not affect your schedule.

What time should you leave Logroño?

The part that varies most is not the road between La Rioja and Madrid but the last few kilometres. On weekdays, the way in via the A-1 or A-2 gets busy early in the morning and mid-afternoon; on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings, however, the problem is traffic leaving Madrid and people returning from the weekend. On long weekends and holidays, the mass holiday getaway can add quite a lot of time.

That is why, when you tell us what time you need to be in Madrid, we work the departure time backwards with that margin built in. If your train leaves from Atocha or Chamartín, we also add time to reach the platform calmly.

Door to door, with rest stops, a fixed price and a company invoice if you need one.

How does a same-day return trip work?

It is a very common format for appointments booked in advance. Here is a sample plan for a 12:00 appointment in central Madrid:

  1. Leave Logroño at around 7:30, with a margin for traffic coming into Madrid.
  2. Short stop halfway for breakfast or to stretch your legs.
  3. Arrival at the door of the consulate, clinic or office with plenty of time to spare.
  4. The driver waits while you sort things out; you can send a WhatsApp when you are on your way out.
  5. Return to Logroño in the early afternoon, getting home before dinner.

If your appointment runs over or you would rather have lunch in Madrid, we adjust the return time. Waiting time is included in the quote from the start, so the price stays fixed.

Travelling on business?

Rioja-based companies visiting clients in Madrid, teams heading to a trade fair at IFEMA or executives who need to arrive rested for a meeting: for all of them we have our corporate service, with company invoicing and the option of coordinating several journeys in the same week. Travel agencies and event organisers can check our terms for working with agencies.

Coming from Madrid to La Rioja?

The service works the same way in the opposite direction: we pick you up at your hotel, your home or outside Atocha or Chamartín and take you to Logroño, Haro or any village. If you are planning the trip from scratch, our guide to getting to La Rioja from Madrid will help and, if you land at Barajas, so will our Madrid-Barajas airport transfer to La Rioja. And if the idea is to come for the wine, the Rioja wine tour from Madrid combines the transfer with winery visits.

If you would rather break up the journey, a stop in Burgos to see the cathedral fits naturally into the A-1 route; you will find the details on our Logroño to Burgos transfer page.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the trip from Logroño to Madrid take by car with a driver?

About 3 h 30 for just over 330 km, depending on the route (via Soria or via Burgos), traffic coming into Madrid and any stops you want to make.

Can you drop me at Atocha or Chamartín?

Yes. We drop you in the vehicle drop-off area of the station of your choice, with plenty of time for your train, or pick you up there if you are heading back to La Rioja.

Can you enter Madrid's low-emission zones?

The electric vehicles in our Rioja Executive range carry the ZERO environmental badge, which allows them to drive in the city's low-emission zones. If your destination has any special restriction, we check it when preparing the quote.

Can I go there and back on the same day?

Yes, although it means around seven hours on the road. It is common for consular or medical appointments and meetings; the driver waits in Madrid and the waiting time is included in the fixed price.

What happens if there is snow on the Piqueras pass?

We check road conditions before setting off. If the pass is difficult, we go via Burgos and the A-1, even if the journey is a little longer, and let you know the new estimated arrival time.
