Logroño to Zaragoza Transfer

Updated 2026 7 min read By Rioja Transfer

Our Logroño to Zaragoza transfer takes you along the Ebro valley to the capital of Aragón in a little under two hours, from your front door to your destination's.

Quick answer: Logroño to Zaragoza is about 170 km via the AP-68 and roughly 1 h 45 by car. With Rioja Transfer we pick you up at your address and drop you at Delicias station, next to the Basilica of El Pilar, at the Feria de Zaragoza trade fair grounds or anywhere in the city, at a fixed price and at any time.

Zaragoza is the nearest big city to La Rioja to the east and a transport hub: high-speed trains to Madrid and Barcelona leave from Delicias station, something Logroño does not have. Its trade fair grounds, university and hospitals also generate a lot of journeys from Rioja Baja. This page explains how a transfer with a driver works, which places in Zaragoza we cover and how to arrange the return.

Road transfer between Logroño and Zaragoza along the Ebro valley

Which route does the Logroño to Zaragoza transfer take?

The natural route is the AP-68, which runs down the Ebro valley past Calahorra, Alfaro and Tudela before entering Aragón. It is a flat motorway in good condition with few complications, which makes the journey time fairly predictable. These are the approximate times to the most common destinations:

DestinationApprox. time from LogroñoWhat it is usually booked for
Zaragoza-Delicias station~1 h 45AVE to Madrid and Barcelona; also regional trains and long-distance coaches.
City centre (El Pilar, Plaza de España)~1 h 45-1 h 50Hotels, sightseeing, errands and lunches.
Feria de Zaragoza~1 h 45Trade fairs and conferences; access from the outskirts, without crossing the centre.
Hospitals and university campuses~1 h 45-1 h 50Medical appointments, exams, student moves.
Zaragoza airport~1 h 45Flights; it has its own transfer page.

These figures are a guide. If you set off from Rioja Baja, the time is shorter: from Calahorra or Alfaro the Aragonese capital is considerably closer.

Why go to Delicias to catch the AVE?

Logroño is connected to Madrid and Barcelona by Alvia, Intercity and regional trains, with few departures. Zaragoza-Delicias, on the other hand, is on the Madrid-Barcelona high-speed line and has many departures a day in both directions. For anyone travelling to Barcelona, for example, driving to Delicias and continuing by AVE is often a convenient combination. Give us your train time and we work out the departure from Logroño with enough margin to reach the platform stress-free.

If you would rather make the whole journey by road, we also cover the Barcelona airport to La Rioja transfer, with rest stops.

How much margin should you allow for a train at Delicias?

As a guide, for an AVE leaving Delicias mid-morning we usually suggest a pick-up in Logroño about two and a half hours earlier: an hour and three quarters on the road, a few minutes to get into the station and a buffer in case of roadworks or traffic on the approach roads. If you are travelling with large suitcases, children or elderly people, we add a bit more time. Conversely, if you are setting off from Calahorra or Alfaro, the pick-up can be later.

The return works the same way: you give us the train number and expected arrival time, the driver follows the timetable and waits for you in the vehicle pick-up area. If the train is late, the driver adapts to the new time.

Travelling for studies or medical reasons?

Many journeys between La Rioja and Zaragoza have nothing to do with tourism: students starting university with all their belongings at the beginning of the academic year, families accompanying someone to an appointment at a leading hospital, or people who need to come back the same day. In those cases what matters is punctuality and peace of mind, so we fix the outward time, the return time and, if needed, the waiting time, all within the same fixed price.

How do transfers to the Feria de Zaragoza work?

Throughout the year the Feria de Zaragoza hosts large trade fairs, some closely linked to the farming and agri-food sector, which are of interest to many companies in the Ebro valley. On those days the approach roads and car parks fill up, and a transfer with a driver saves time spent looking for a space. This is how we organise it:

  1. Pick-up in Logroño or at your company first thing, arriving when the venue opens.
  2. Drop-off at the main entrance, with no need to park or walk from distant car parks.
  3. Agreed return time or a WhatsApp message when your meetings are over.
  4. Invoice in the company's name at the end of the service.

For teams or delegations, the 7-seat Rioja Group van takes everyone together. And if you are the one organising an event in La Rioja and welcoming visitors from Aragón, our Riojaforum conference transfers page explains how we coordinate arrivals. All the information for businesses is on our corporate service page.

“In the Ebro valley the road is easy; the hard part is parking on a trade fair day. That is where a chauffeur makes the difference.”

Car with driver, bus or train to Zaragoza?

There are direct trains and buses between Logroño and Zaragoza, and if you are travelling alone, without luggage and your destination is near the station, they are a valid option. A private transfer wins when the timetable does not suit public transport, when there are several of you, when your destination is an industrial estate, a hospital or the fair grounds, or when you are coming back at night. It is also useful for elderly people or those with reduced mobility, who appreciate not having to change or carry luggage.

If you want to know exactly what a car-with-driver service is and how it differs from a taxi, we explain it on our private hire driver in Logroño page.

Can you pick people up in Rioja Baja?

Yes, and it is one of the advantages of this route: the AP-68 runs right past Calahorra and Alfaro, so we can pick up several people in different towns within the same service. If you live in that area and travel often, there is also our private driver in Alfaro and eastern La Rioja and our private driver in Calahorra.

Which vehicle should you choose for Zaragoza?

For business trips, the Rioja Executive range (Mercedes EQ and Tesla, electric, with water and WiFi) turns an hour and three quarters of motorway into useful time. The Rioja Standard range (MG and Toyota) is the practical choice for personal transfers. For families or groups, the 7-seat van; a 16-seat minibus will be available soon.

What about the Fiestas del Pilar?

Around 12 October Zaragoza celebrates the Fiestas del Pilar, with the Ofrenda de Flores (Flower Offering) as the central event and the city centre very busy. On those days we plan the drop-off point away from closed streets and allow extra margin for the pick-up time. If you want to make the most of the trip to see the city, we can suggest an itinerary for Zaragoza in a day from Logroño. And if your route continues to Navarre, our Logroño to Pamplona transfer works on the same terms.
